Their service department is, on the whole, very good too. They offer an online virtual chat facility that usually gets the customer straight to a technician and the staff seem knowlegable and helpful. Since I am not in the US, I have no experience of their toll-free phone service. I like the fact that the CEO has his own blog and does actually answer emails to his personal account. However Bluehost is not perfect. They, like most shared hosting companies, cram as many sites as they can onto each server (mine has in excess of 500). Inevitably this causes performance issues. While Bluehost have made efforts to improve load balancing and serving speed, I have experienced periods of poor page loading speeds. Their uptime may be impressive, but if your site hasn't loaded after 10 secs, many visitors will give up and go elsewhere. I have encouraged the CEO to offer VPS hosting, something they are considering in the future, which would solve this problem. In the meantime I will stick with Bluehost as the package is great and most of the time things are fine, but I am getting a little frustrated by the frequently sub-par server performance. |
